Grapefruit, a cholesterol lowering food, without diet or lifestyle changes.

Mother nature in her infinite wisdom, once again reveals her infinite abilities and perhaps even patience in assisting man/woman, this time  in lowering cholesterol. In a clinical research study by Dr. James Cerda, reported in the Clinical Cardiology journal, a group of patients were astonished to know that grapefruit pectin had lowered their ldl cholesterol,  by at least 10%, without being subjected to any diet to lower cholesterol.

And it gets better, the clinical research team was able to determine not only that grapefruit pectin can lower ldl levels, it can as well assist to reverse arterial-wall damage and the onset of atherosclerosis, therefore can function as a safe natural food that protects against heart disease or call it heart disease prevention.

In his efforts at taping nature for an answer to reduce plaque in the arteries, Dr. Cerda, a gastroenterologist in the sunshine-state of Florida at Gainesville, enlisted the use of pigs, that he fed a typical nutritionally-deficient North American diet of saturated fats. Within twelve moons, as the natives would say, cholesterol levels were up in double digits.

Interestingly, from this point, half the pigs had their saturated fat high cholesterol diet, supplemented with food fiber while the rest of the group were supplemented with a variety of fruit pectins including grapefruit pectin. By the end of another twelve months, much to their surprise, the research team found that the group supplemented with grapefruit pectin registered an amazing lowering of cholesterol by at least sixty-percent.  By the way, grapefruit also contains dietary-fiber.

Now let us take a look at the human side of the research. Here too the results were very pleasing. Remember that at the beginning of this article, human patients not following any cholesterol diets, and supplementing with pectin, achieved a lowering of ldl cholesterol by at least 10% in four weeks. During the same time-interval, the 210 patients who made prudent dietary changes and also exercised a bit regulary, became a shining example of how to lower cholesterol naturally and safely, each achieving at least a 27% lowering of ldl cholesterol in a mere 28 days.

The journal indicates a daily nutritional supplementation of fifteen grams of grapefruit pectin to achieve improved cholesterol numbers or ratios of hdl and ldl. Otherwise, you have to eat two big whole grapefruits daily, whole means everything with nothing thrown away. However, there is a more convenient extract and inexpensive, and will give you a link here to get it in the next few days. You may find it amusing that the natural and safe extract has fda approval.
